Comparison of lunar limb profiles from graze observations with Kaguya LALT data

 
 
The Japanese lunar explorer KAGUYA (Selene) was launched by JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) on 2007 Sept 14.  A global accurate and precise topographic map of the Moon was constructed from the data obtained by LALT (laser altimeter), which is one of the instruments on board KAGUYA.  The lunar limb profiles obtained from observations of lunar grazing occultations are compared with those from the KAGUYA-LALT map.  Some of the results are shown in the figures below.  For comparison, they are also compared with lunar limb profiles of Watts (1963).  Note that no fitting was made in these drawings.

Sôma is using the KAGUYA-LALT data as a Co-I of LALT and is making these analyses.
